Railroads started coming to Colorado around the 1870’s, mainly for the mining industry. Most were built through rugged terrain and during nearly impossible conditions. The Canon City and Royal Gorge Railroad (CC&RG) was no exception and shows it’s tribute to human ingenuity and determination as well.

We arrived at the depot about an hour early for our “lunch class” ride on the CC&RG. The current depot was completed in 1914 to replace the original frame building. As you can imagine, it now sports a gift shop and play area for the kids. [Read more →]
